Getting Physical Again after Years of being Sedentary
As I've talked about before I recently started hiking. For years I didn't do much of anything. Mainly due to my weight and also my energy levels. I've always struggled with my weight and I'm not going to go play by play through all of that. Just to say About a year ago I was around 350 pounds and couldn't walk out to check the mail without nearly passing out. Any simple task would get me short of breath and light headed.

That picture was taken at my son's college orientation. They did a tour of the campus which required a ton of walking. I thought for sure I was going to die of death before the day was over. Granted, it was in June and it was insanely hot and humid there in Corpus Christi, Texas but my condition at the time and I thought wearing Crocs would be fine all made me tired and miserable by the end of the day. I was so sore that night I could barely lift my legs or bend or much of anything.
Around that same time last year, I started on Wegovy through my nurse practitioner. I lost 10 pounds right out of the gate. Almost a year later, I'm down 50 pounds. I weigh aruond 300 now. Still pretty big and not thin by any stretch, but its like I lost the equivalent of five bowling balls off my body. I already feel more mobile and something simple like getting up off the couch isn't nearly as taxing.

That picture was taken last week at around 300. I feel like I've lost more fat and inches than I have actual weight. Seems I'm stuck lately weight wise, but inches keep coming off especially now that I'm exercising. My new Merrell boots arrive tomorrow, not sure we'll be home as we are heading to have lunch with daughter, but either way, I'll get them at some point tomorrow. I'm excited to get them on my feet and take them for an adventure.
Oddly blogging has helped me in wanting to exercise. Every hike is a new adventure that gives me more stuff to blog about. Sometimes just because random things come to my mind while I'm out walking. I feel like it is improving my mental health and my moods. Just more oxygen, blood flow and dopamine which are all things I usually lack.
Not a long blog today, just a few random thoughts and some background on me. I hope everyone is having a good weekend and staying safe out there. Talk to you all soon!
